COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION INSULATION SLEEVING, THERMAL, TUBULAR (METRIC)
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this Commercial Item
Description (CID) for all federal agencies.
1. SCOPE. This CID covers requirements for tubular, thermal, insulation sleeving, hereinafter called "insulation sleeving". The insulation sleeving is intended for covering heater exhaust ducts, heater ducts or tubes and pipes carrying fluids at elevated temperatures.
2. CLASSIFICATION. Insulation temperature range shall be as follows (see 7.2): Range 1 - Up to 538 degrees Celsius ( C) (1000 degrees Fahrenheit ( F))
Range 2 - Up to 399 C (750 F)
Range 3 - Up to 177 C (350 F)
3. SALIENT CHARACTERISTICS.
3.1 Materials. The material shall conform to ASTM C 1086, specifying 100 percent (%) glass fiber, and ASTM D 581, specifying glass fiber with organic content to be at least 1 % and no greater than 4 %. Insulation hygroscopic moisture content shall not exceed 1 %. The use of recovered material made in compliance with regulatory requirements is acceptable providing that all requirements of this CID are met (see 4.1).
