COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
TAPE, PRESSURE SENSITIVE ADHESIVE (DUCT)
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description.
This description covers pressure sensitive tape for fibrous glass ducts.
Salient characteristics.
Material. The tape shall consist of an aluminum foil coated on one side with a pressure sensitive adhesive with or without a liner. The minimum nominal width of the tape shall be 2-1/2 inches; minimum width shall be 1/32 inch less than nominal.
Backing. Backing shall be mill finish dead soft aluminum foil. The backing shall be imprinted, in repeated intervals not exceeding 36-inches, to permit identification of (after installation). The name of the manufacturer; the date of manufacture in month and year and; compliance with SMACNA Standard AFTS-100-79.
Adhesive. The surface on one side of aluminum foil shall be completely covered with a non-toxic adhesive. There shall be no separation of the adhesive from the backing upon unwinding of the roll nor shall the adhesive transfer to the liner, when a liner is involved.
Rolls. Tape shall be evenly and uniformly wound on 3-inch i.d. cores. Cores shall be sufficiently rigid to prevent distortion of the roll under normal conditions of transportation and use. Tape backing shall be free from wrinkles and from gaps between liner and adhesive.
Length. The length of the roll shall be 180 yards – 2 feet.
Conformance. Tape shall comply with PERFORMANCE STANDARD AFTS-100-79. Sheet Metal and Air Conditioning Contractors National Association (SMACNA). The issue of SMACNA Standards in effect on the date of solicitation shall be used to determine compliance with these requirements.
Regulatory requirements. The offeror/contractor is encouraged to use recovered materials in accordance with Public Law 94-580 to the maximum extent practical.
Preservation, packaging, packing, labeling, and marking. The preservation, packaging, packing, labeling, and marking shall be as specified in the contract or order.
